Routine Service

Regardless of size or powerplant, every boat needs to be maintained. Regular, routine maintenance will prolong the life of your boat whether it's a four-stroke outboard, a stern drive, or an inboard.

Tomahund Marine provides a comprehensive range of services for boats and watercraft of any size and length and manufacturer. We are also a factory authorized service center for Mercury Marine® products including Mercruiser®.

Seasonal Engine Service

Your engine should be serviced at least every 100 hours of operational use to prolong its life and to ensure your boat is both reliable and running at optimum efficiency.

Seasonal service checks should include:

  • Change the Fuel filter
  • Adjust throttle cables and lubricate linkages
  • Lubricate propeller shaft
  • Bleed auto lube pump
  • Adjust timing of ignition
  • Strip and check water pump
  • Change gear oil
  • Check for water leaks around seals
  • Change spark plugs
  • Check flywheel nut torque/torque cylinder head
  • Check and adjust idle speed
  • Check anode/trim tab, replace if required
  • Change oil, filters, and valves on 4 strokes

Annual Engine Service

To keep your inboard or outboard running at optimum efficiency and to prolong engine life, annual service is recommended to ensure reliability.

Annual service checks should include:

  • Strip and check water pump
  • Change gear oil
  • Check for water leaks around seals
  • Check spark plugs/change if required
  • Check flywheel torque/torque cylinder head
  • Check/change fuel filter if needed
  • Check/adjust throttle/lubricate linkages
  • Lubricate propeller shaft
  • Check/adjust ignition timing
  • Check/adjust carburetor
  • Check and adjust idle speed
  • Check anode/trim tab, replace if required
  • Change oil, filters, and check valves on 4 strokes

Tune-Ups

  • Clean battery terminals & connect battery
  • Replace sparkplugs & water separating fuel filter
  • Replace distributor cap, rotor, & in-line fuel filters
  • Check and adjust engine timing
  • Check and adjust carburetor
  • Clean Flame arrestor
  • Perform major systems checks
  • Check and adjust all fluids

Oil Changes

  • Replace engine oil (Mercruiser Synthetic)
  • Replace oil filter (Mercruiser Synthetic filter)
  • Perform major systems checks
  • Check and adjust all fluids
